Advice to buyer: |
With the C6 coming out soon the 2004 Corvette (C5) is a bargain |
Detailed review: |
This car is fun to drive, comfortable, rattle-free and relatively quiet. As expected the handling and performance are exceptional. My car has the 4-speed automatic with the Performance Axle (3.15 ratio) option. If you don't go with the 6-speed manual transmission then the performance axle is the way to go. There is a noticeable difference in performance between the stock gear ration (2.73) and the performance ratio.
My previous Corvette was a 1990 6-speed. It had a rough ride, rattled a lot, was noisy, and would make you feel tired after driving it for an hour. This car is nothing at all like that. My 2004 Corvette is a joy to drive and you feel refreshed rather than exhausted when you are done.
The build quality is very good. The only thing that was wrong on mine is a paint drip on the lower portion of the driver's door. Because of problems with other cars related to painting (e.g., rattles probably caused by removal of door handle hardware) I decided to just live with this. It is about an inch long and not noticeable.
The 2005 Corvette looks like a big step forward, but the 2004 cannot be faulted. It is a great car that can be found with big discounts, making it all that much more appealing. |
