Simple basic truck

 Least favorite feature:

Simple basic truck- KISS principle applies but a little boring - What's with the tape deck who listens to tapes anymore - Have you heard of CD's people

 Advice to buyer:

I bought solely on cheap price and the reliable name - test drive the competition to be sure - your purchase should give you some joy - I love my wife's xterra, I would have given the frontier some more consideration.

 Detailed review:

The best reason to buy is Toyotas stellar reliability. The truck is somewhat boring in styling but clean and functional. I own this vehicle and my biggest concern is its bouncy ride over bumps and loss of traction. The 4 cyl engine is peppy and adequate, you will not get out of second gear up steep inclines. Rain on the road creates a very serious traction control issue. I have had several incidents where the rear traction tire would spin and make it almost impossible to get traction on steep inclines in the rain requiring a second run at the hill - very dangerous in my opinion. My other complaint is the manual transmission will clunk into second on the upshift, I mentioned this at my first service and was told they are all like this??? I would not expect these two engineering faults from Toyota. Otherwise good fuel economy and a proven track record of reliability and good resale value. The paint is very soft and scratches easily - a bedliner or spray liner is a must, the lightest objects will scratch this finish miserably. Toyota relies too heavily on the Tacoma name. Way too many variations of this truck with the same name but vary so greatly that it is impossible to compare and categorize these in the same segment. Especially for 2005, you certainly cannot compare my basic 2004 small 4x2, 2 seater Tacoma to the huge 2005 V6 tacoma full cabs - This truck is huge and almost impossible to maneuver in comparison.
