get the sport package (much nicer wheels) for 3.0 or 4.4 models
Detailed review:
Went from a 540i with 4.4 litre 6-speed manual to an X5 with a 3.0 6 cylinder automatic and missed the extra giddy-up at first, but now find 3.0 sufficient and am saving untold $$ on speeding tickets. Rides and accelerates beautifully for a 'truck.'
