Go for the V6 |
Detailed review: |
Bought a 2005 LX V6. I just found this site and read the reviews. First Japanese car I have owned. Been a loyal GM fan until I bought 2 new GM vehicles in the last 5 years. I no longer own them and I won't buy another.
I only have one major complaint. The seat is not comfortable to me. The side seat cushion bolsters hit me in the side of my bottom and cause it to go numb after more than 45 minutes while driving. Maybe the leather seats are more comfortable? I was told the seats are the same shape just offered in different finishes. I have read other reviews and they report very good comfort ratings so it must just be me.
I love the way the car drives. The engine and transmission combination is the most perfectly matched I have ever driven. I am not an auto transmission fan, but this is the best auto I have driven. It almost does everything I want, but is not perfect. During full pedal accelerations the shifts are instantaneous and stay in the sweet spot. The cold transmission shifts are a little harsh, but I would prefer that over a Ford slush box any day. The downshifts felt during decelerations were a little annoying at first, but I am used to them now. It kind of gives me the feeling of a manual trans.
I love the fact that when I remove my foot from the accelerator pedal the vehicle actually slows down. Most domestic vehicles continue at the same speed. I cannot stand constantly riding the brake to overcome 'auto' cruise!
The fuel economy is very good. The least I calculated was 26 mpg and the best I had was 30.6 mpg (all were a mixture of city/highway).
The ride is surprisingly sporty. Some bumps are a little harsh but that is more reflective of the poor quality of Michigan roads. The handling through turns is confidence inspiring.
Initial brake feel is a little too strong, but I would rather have that then lack of feel. I did have the front rotors turned after 4000 miles because of vibration/noise during braking. I am told that Honda has not figured out they need to design better rotors from the factory. Turning the rotors is not the best solution, but the dealer told me if they fail again new rotors will be installed free of charge.
The gear selector goes past overdrive and into 3rd too easily. You just need to pay attention and count the clicks when in a hurry.
Overall I love the car and see why it is one of the best selling cars. Fantastic typical Honda quality. I am a very difficult customer to please! I just wish the seat was more comfortable to me and will have to find a solution to this. I will get the manual trans next time!
