Advice to buyer: |
Pay invoice, no more. Stick to the V6 unless towing something massive often. Forget the sunroof if not absolutely necessary. 6 disc changer rocks - upgrade to JBL stereo if into music. If in S. Carolina area, buy from Dick Dyer Columbia- good ppl. |
Detailed review: |
Polished SUV that is capable on road. Quiet even at 80mph, good JBL stereo/disc changer, smart layout of buttons, heated leather seats are key, love the smooth transmission and V6 power/fuel econ. mix, power rear window, dual climate control, simple and smart engine layout, standard Vehicle stability control (the new important safety feature), non-buffetting sunroof design, tows up to 5k lbs. w/ no problem (did it last weekend), work horse in a fitting exterior, powertrain is unmatched in this catagory, and go anywhere attitude is nice piece of mind.
Its lesser points, which it only has a few and they're minor, are a high floor and low roof creates cockpit like interior - not major though. No lumbar support for passenger???? Pretty big miscue for a 35k car. Toe room tight in back but leg room OK. Inside of rear doors collect dirt from outside somehow -- a head scratcher. Running boards stick out and create a dirty pant leg entry/exit -- not big issue though. That's it.
Overall, as an SUV with decent milage (19.5 mpg after 4k miles of mixed driving), this truck is ready for anything you throw at it. V8 seems unnecessary to me - V6 gets to 60 in under 8 seconds and has plenty of highway passing punch (unless towing over 5000 lbs. consistently, the tried and true V6 has all the power most people need with better milage). Toyota's rep. for reliability and resale value, 4runner's off road ability and its composed on road daily handling means this is going to be a long lasting, good looking, confidence inspiring truck that stays in my garage for 6 years minimum (and will then sell for much more than some GM at that age). I look forward to climbing in it each time - especially when the road ahead is uncertain bc this machine is ready for it all. |
