Go for the 4-cyl. the power is good (not great) and it should last practically forever.
Detailed review:
My 4-cyl doesn't throw me back in the seat when I'm accelerating hard but it is still very peppy. Mileage is very good though and there's lots of room around the engine to reach things. Ease of maintenance is important to me since I do all my own major engine work and my wife and me intend to see how long we can drive this car. Inerior design appeal and comfort is almost as good as the 2000 BMW 323i I owned in Germany. Our Galant is a very solid car and the fit and finish give me great peace of the wisdom of our purchase decision.
