Detailed review: |
I primarily use the vehicle as a second family vehicle so the double cab comes in handy. I do not use it as a work truck so when reading this review please keep that in mind.
The fit and finish of this vehicle is beyond reproach but there are a few things to pay attention to if you are thinking about purchasing this vehicle.
It rides like a truck because it is a truck, but more emphasis could have gone into a less choppy ride. The ride of Toyota's Highlander would have been a better fit for me.
The A/C works well when the weather is somewhat mild but when it gets a bit steamy the A/C doesn't cool the cab quickly and struggles to do so unless on high.
The sound system is also marginal, fine for radio but nothing else. The tones are not crisp.
The clock is in a horrible place, the design engineer must have had a few drinks before deciding where to put it.
Road and wind noise can be heavy at highway speeds.
The last thing to be aware of is water. When washing the vehicle or in a rain storm water doesn't actually enter the cabin but pretty darn close. It gets in above and below the seals nearest the exterior floorboard and above the window. Imagine wiping down the interior when opening the door, it's hard to explain because it doesn't actually get in on the seats or floor etc. but the exposed area near it. Took it Toyota and they said this is normal. That was a bit scary.
The stuff I like?
Totes kids and other stuff like it is intended to do. Weekend work truck. It sits up high which is great in traffic. The interior has that firm/comfortable feel.
Would I buy it again knowing what I know now? I trust Toyota so the answer is probably 'yes', but the reputation they earned over the years for putting out a 'great' product is being questioned by a longtime loyal customer like me. I would have taken a better look at Chevy's S-10 Crew Cab and the Nissan Frontier Crew Cab.
