AWD performance/Handling & Distinctive product concept |
Least favorite feature: |
Disappointing acceleration in stock setup - Engineering concessions to 'soccer moms' - brake feel, motor and transmission mounts, suspension settings, etc - too comfy. |
Advice to buyer: |
There's a world-wide aftermarket for performance improvements for the Impreza models - use them! - Do your reserach and get MORE POWER...and secure your trunk carpet! |
Detailed review: |
As a previous owner of the Subaru SVX luxury-GT car, I was lookin for something a little more agile, and as a fan of the FIA World Rally Championship, the Impreza 2.5 RS was an obvious choice for me. The exterior styling, inspired by the Prodrive-built factory rally car, is a real eye-catcher, and despite the less-than-firebreathing performance, the scoop and vent aren't just eye candy. Handling and grip, even on the stock semi-performance tires, are the Impreza's claims to fame. A comfortable coupe, with a comfortable ride, and gobs of grip. A new set of z-rated tires turned my 'RS' into a curve-hugging beast! Build quality is second only to the highest-price European builders. Mechanical durability and quality is certainly the most immediately familiar of Subaru's selling points, but the fun-to-drive nature of this coupe (or sedan as well for 2000) , distinctive styling, and real motorsports heritage result in a lot of looks, compliments and questions. This isn't the Impreza that our European and Asian brothers get, but it's probably more car than you thought Subaru could build - A whole lot of car. |
