Favorite feature: |
Distinctive looks/suicide doors/unbelievable off road capabilities! |
Least favorite feature: |
The seats don't have deep enough 'buckets' to hold you in more snugly. |
Advice to buyer: |
For Looks, off-road capabilities and price, you can't get anything cheaper! Get one while you can still afford one!! |
Detailed review: |
I agree with the previous comments; fun to drive, stock radio sounds great, lots of room and distinctive look, I get a lot of looks too.
Don’t listen to the bad reviews. It seems the professional reviewers on articles found elsewhere, were looking for living rooms on wheels. This car has just enough road feel, road sound, and steering wheel feedback to keep you connected to the road. But with out all the road bumpiness I find so annoying on domestic trucks! Other cars keep you so isolated you wonder if you left your living room at all. The drivability and road feel is a feature I found on the Toyota brand, that keeps me coming back. And its big enough inside and out, to make me feel like I’m driving a Bradley... in a good way.
Now about the blind spots. Yes they are there. Yes you have to exert a little bit more caution. Yes you have to twist just a little bit more to ensure your spots are clear. But if you want a distinctive looking car you are ‘gonna’ have to put up with some idiosyncrasies. And the visibility issue is the FJ’s one. I wouldn’t change a thing! The side mirrors are ample enough, use them, use your passengers. And look around once in a while, don’t just stare blankly at the car in front of you while yapping on your cell phone! If you are really concern about visibility, then maybe the FJ isn’t for you.
Mine has no frills whatsoever, not even a spare tire cover, I was going for a trimmed rugged look and lower price. And the standard steel wheels is part of that all-business-look. However I do have a full power plant with all the features that would make a mountain goat green with envy! I can always add the shiny stuff later. At Camp Lejeune, where I work, the ‘guys’ are gobbling them up! And at my pay-grade, its within my reach! Thank you Toyota!
Ever since I saw the Humvee (not the Hummer, the Humvee) way back before they became public knowledge I wanted one. But price-wise, there was no way of getting one unless you were the Governator [of California]. I don’t even want to talk about the follow-up ‘H’ models. Those were made for the girlie-men. To me, my FJ is better than any Humvee I ever drove. And this one fits in my carport!
Any, and all other complaints... leave them to the whiny-do-nothing crowd!
Price wise, features, quality and looks, its the best Toyota I’ve ever owned. Considering any shortcoming you may find, I highly recommend it. |
