I have owned 3 suburbans since 1991. 2 Chev's and 1 GMC. 2 half tons and one 3 quarter ton. Definately go with the 3 quarter ton. But expect high maintenance cost. In ten years I would say my average cost is at least $200.00 per month on new brakes. Plan to replace the brakes every 3 to 4 months. My current Chev 2500 I have 51,000 miles on it and have replaced the pads 5 times front and rear. New rotors on the front at 27,000 miles and just had all new brakes all the way around including rear drums at 45,000 miles.
