2007 Mazda CX-9 First Drive

| The Basics: Origins |

The all-new, seven-passenger 2007 Mazda CX-9 fills the position in Mazda’s lineup previously occupied by the MPV minivan. Built on a variation of the Mazda6 sedan platform, the CX-9 shares its architectural roots with other new crossovers from Ford Motor Company, including the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. The V6 engine is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission with sport shift. The crossover segment is growing rapidly, expected to hit three million units in 2010, say industry analysts. The full-size CX-9 expands Mazda’s offerings in this lucrative segment. Mazda says that although similar in appearance, CX-7 and CX-9 remain distinct models, supported by their differing platforms.
