Equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four making 143 horsepower and 136 lb.-ft. torque, the 2007 Suzuki SX4 should prove sprightly, if not quick, given curb weights averaging between 2,650 and 2,850 pounds. Buyers can select between a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission directing power to the front or to all four wheels. The Suzuki SX4 2WD gets 26 mpg in city while 4WD versions gets 24 mpg in town regardless of transmission choice, but note that highway fuel economy is better with the automatic: the 2WD gets 31/33 mpg manual/automatic while the 4WD gets 29/30 manual/automatic. The 2007 Suzuki SX4’s available 4WD system is a new three-mode setup. You can run it in 2WD mode to maximize fuel efficiency, you can put it in automatic AWD mode to transfer power from the front wheels to the rears when slippage is detected, or you can lock the power split in a 50:50 ratio at speeds up to 37 mph. The 2007 Suzuki SX4 rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension coupled with a torsion beam rear axle. It rolls on standard 195/65R15 tires with 205/60R16s optional. Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes are standard, and stability control is an option.
